Resodyn Corp. of Butte, Mont., is developing an industrial mixer that uses rapid sonic bursts much like a series of earthquakes to blend fluids inside a closed vessel. The lack of moving parts allows for more-rapid and more-even dispersal of solids and gases than in conventional mixers. And there are no blades or rotors to be cleaned, which is particularly useful if hazardous liquids are involved. Applications are expected in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, chemicals
and processed foods, among others.
